Woman Sentenced to Federal Prison for Defrauding Rapides Parish Council on Aging

A Marksville woman was recently sentenced to 36 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to two separate counts of wire fraud. 41-year-old Kayla Vead was ordered to pay restitution of $388,946.82 to the Rapides Parish Council on Aging (RPCOA).

Vead’s Scheme and Arrest

Vead began working as a bookkeeper for RPCOA in July 2018, managing payroll, credit cards, and other financial records. During her three-year scheme, Vead obtained over $100,000 each year and used those funds to launch multiple businesses, such as Southern Sass Closet and Kay’s Bridal Boutique. She accomplished this by forging endorsements and depositing RPCOA checks to her personal account.

The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Cytheria D. Jernigan.
